Through exploring the worm as a metaphorical symbol of labour, my practice draws similarities between worm existence and gendered labour. This informed a series of sculptural installations in which the sculptures came to be termed Worman. These surreal Worman figures navigate imposed expectations of feminine domesticity. Historical artefacts such as ‘domestic manuals’ have informed my critique of reductive archetypes tied to women’s work. Imagery from these sources have been subsequently re-interpreted and manipulated, alongside the Worman, into prints providing a space for the linguistic, sculptural, and visual to co-exist. My recent work combines sculpture and photo-manipulation into staged installations depicting these worman to be completing common household chores.
